EZ Grader in Google Sheets

0:00 So I saw this Easy Grader. Uh, it's from the '90s, I guess, or '80s, and it looks terrific. It looks like a f- fun thing to try to do in a Google Sheet. Um, so the idea behind the Easy Grader is that you have this panel behind this where it shows the number of problems, it's for teachers to grade, and the number of problems wrong is on the left side, and the grade is on, in this window. Okay, so spoiler alert, I made it, and I made it way better with a few little tricks. One, we have different, uh, colors if you want, pink, green, purple, lime. 0:49 honestly, up to, like, hundreds. Um, but let's do, like, 18. It immediately shows the number here and then the percentages. So number of problems wrong and then what is the grade? We can put it at, like, eight, and we can see here this should be correct. Uh, I wanna show you how this works. Um, and if you wanna just download this, become a Better Sheets member today. Um, but if you wanna just follow along in this video, I can show you a couple of the, uh, formulas that I used and a bit of conditional formatting . 1:34 Let's zoom in a little bit. We have sequence . We take the number , and we just minus one because this is number of problems wrong. Obviously, if you have zero problems wrong, you would get 100%, and if you have all of the problems wrong , eight, you would get 0%. So we don't need to include those. And then what, all we do is step one time each row. And because this is based on the number in D2, it's automatic. So as we change this number in D2, the sequence gets bigger and bigger, and we can do 33, and it'll go all the way up to 32, one to 32. So now the question is, how do we then get the percentage? 2:22 Let's actually rewrite this because, um, it might make more sense with less stuff around it. So I'm gonna delete all the stuff around it and just show you what is inside of the cell. It is… We're taking whatever is in D2, we minus whatever is in the C column here. So in this case, it would be 32. I've also formatted it as a percentage, so, um, check that out. Then we take that number and we divide it by the number in D2. 3:10 copy and paste it down, D2 would change. C6 is gonna change, but D2 would also change. So what we do is we put a dollar sign in front of the D and the 2 to say, "At all times, no matter where we copy/paste this, make sure you look at D2." Okay, so that's the base. And then we can also go up to Format , and I think this format is just percentage. Um, yeah, it's percentage, and then decrease the decimal places, too. That's all we did for formatting . But the thing is, if I did that, if I copy/paste this down, you see there's extra numbers. Reformat Pasted Cells Automatically Count First Digit of Cell

3:55 We don't want all of those numbers to show up. So what we need to do We also wanna wrap it round around that And we're gonna have two places there. Because it's a percentage, we need the two decimal places. Okay, so now we have ROUND, and then we're gonna do IF. We're gonna select Is Blank. We're gonna put C1 and then two commas. What that means is that if it's true, if it is blank, we show nothing. If it's not blank, meaning Is Blank is false, then we show something I just need to make sure it is looking at C6. There we go. And that we can copy and paste all the way down as far as we want. Look, even into the hundreds, this formula is still there. 4:44 But how do we get this, um, coloring? So what we did is we colored everything pink, and then I selected just the D column here, went up to Format , Conditional formatting , and I said, "If the value is greater than zero, paint it white." So really, the entire sheet is… sort of we're looking at this cover, that's the color of the sheet, and then the conditional formatting is the little stuff in the middle. So that was sort of a fun little trick that I think is super cool, um, in here. And the logo is literally the EasyGrader logo that I just inserted in the cell. 5:30 I added the text number of problems wrong in gray, just like on the sides. The only thing I haven't done is put a, um… What is this called? Uh, a little text here. Let's do this arrow We need to say n- total number of problems So I want it all caps total number of problems. I'm going to select that, make sure it is Rubik.
