How to Stop an Apps Script in Google Sheets

0:00 You're going to find out in this video how to stop an Apps Script that is running. What we're going to do is create an Apps Script that is going to run for five minutes, and actually that's over here in Excel . It's the editor . We just created a little five minute, basically says starting and keeps running. So we're going to run this here, five minute script. And on the bottom right, you can see running. And this is just going to continue to run, run, run for five minutes. I'm going to dismiss this. And if you have some kind of Apps Script that's gone awry, that's looping, that's either sending emails or gathering data or something, and it just won't stop. It has an error and you want to go fix it. Here's how to stop an Apps Script . Go up to extensions, Apps Script. It'll open Apps Script if it's not open yet. And if it is open, just go to your tab with Apps Script.

0:45 Over on the left side, we're going to scroll down to executions. It's the next to last item here on the left. Executions. And we'll find the one that's running. If you have multiple Apps Scripts that are either running or happening at the same time since it's been running. You may have to click on this add a filter , click status and click running, apply. And here we'll find only the ones that are running. But if it's just only one, it'll be the top one and it's running. Over on the right side of running, there'll be three dots. Click that and click terminate. It'll ask you, do you want to terminate this? If you cancel this execution, you'll not be able to restart it. Continue. Yes, terminate. And now it is terminated. You have stopped your Apps Script . You can now continue developing your Apps Script or try to run it again.
