How to Show Month Name, And Not Whole Date, in Google Sheets

Learn how to display only the month name from a date in Google Sheets while keeping the original date data intact. This tutorial provides a step-by-step guide to formatting your dates effectively.

So you have a date and you wanna show the actual name of the month here, but we want to actually have the date as data . So we wanna say January here, and maybe four, two. Two. We want February. So how do we show the name of the month but have the data as the date? I'll show you in a one. We have the date, we're gonna go up to format . Choose number and scroll down to the bottom here to custom date and time. At the very top. We can click on day and click delete. Now we have a cursor here with the slash. Just delete that, and then where it says month, you can click on that and we can get the full name of the month. Click apply and now the underlying data is the date, but what we see is the whole month.

So this is great, especially if you wanna take a date, show the date and do equals A one where now we have the date in A one and B two, but this reference means we only have to update the date in a one. So if we say three. Three, it's March. So that's pretty cool that we can see the entire month name and the date you are watching better sheets here on YouTube.
