How to Make a Simple Kanban Board in Google Sheets
Learn how to create a simple Kanban board in Google Sheets to effectively visualize and manage your tasks and workflow. This tutorial guides you through setting up statuses and using functions to organize your tasks efficiently.
Let's make a simple Kanban board. Why do we need one is because we have a list of tasks. Perhaps they all have a different status. And if we sort this status in this list, we're not getting really the best overview of how we're doing on our tasks or our assignees are doing on our task. So we use a Kanban board. It's a way to visualize all the steps and see what's happening in each of those steps. Let's create a new page, Kanban. I'm going to first do unique , and I'm going to get the statuses here so that I know, okay, those four items are needed in my Kanban board. I need a to do, I need in progress, I need done. And in review. Now the order in which they are, let's make sure they're in order. To do is probably not yet done. In progress is we're doing it. In review, need to see how many tasks are in our review and which ones are done. So we have our headers here. We'll make them look nice. Now under each one we're going to use the filter function . We're going to filter . Not the status column, but the task name column. However, we're going to say that the status column is equal to the header of our Kanban board header here. And now all of the to dos are here. Make this a little wider. And if I hold the A column here, and hold the C column with a dollar sign , but leave B1 as is, I can copy paste this across, and now, I can see all of my tasks. Let's vertically align these and wrap them. Give them a little bit more space. And even, maybe, view Without grid lines. Now I have a nice way of seeing what's in my to do list. What's in progress. What's in review, what's done. And all I need to do is move everything down the line a little bit. Come on boards are really awesome because they show us our workflow and where possibly there's some stops, some bottlenecks happening. Kanban Board gives us that really nice view of what's where in our workflow. Hope you enjoyed this very simple Kanban Board.
