How to Change Dropdown Chips to Fill Whole Cell
Learn how to change dropdown chips in Google Sheets to fill the entire cell with color for a more aesthetically pleasing look while maintaining functionality.
In this video, I'm going to show you how to get your dropdown chip . Color to fill the entire cell. In this case, we have a bunch of sales. We have different months and we have these dropdown chips, which are very useful because we can click and change these. We can also change the color of them and it's very awesome, but sometimes aesthetically, we may want to fill the entire cell with this color. And we have this arrow here. I'm going to click on the arrow. I'm going to go to edit button. I'm going to change this functionality. In actuality, it doesn't change the functionality. It just changes the aesthetics. I'm going to scroll down, click advanced options . And here I have in display style, I have the option of arrow or plain text . The plain text shows up like this and it fills the entire cell. Arrow as well will fill the entire cell. So I can click done. I can click apply to all. And now will fill the entire cell that I have.
So I can change this height and here Cell is filled with the color that we've selected. If we do not like this arrow, however, we can change this. We can click on the arrow, go to edit button on the very bottom of your dropdown chip . We're going to scroll down on the right advanced options , and we can change this to plain text , click done, apply to all. And now we can see all of these are plain text , but the functionality does not disappear. We can double click. We can change this to February. We can change this to January. We can change these. As if they were the entire drop down chip . It just doesn't show up. The user that they can do it, but they can do it, which is very interesting. This might not be that great for users who don't know that you can edit this, who don't know that this is a drop down chip , but that's really awesome if you're like an admin, you're creating a sheet, a template for someone, and they're just having to fill in, say, the sales numbers, and they don't
have to actually change the month. This allows you to have a drop down chip , fill the entire cell with the color, and not have someone think, what is this? Rounded corner thing over here.
