1st of the year!

Learn how to automatically set the first day of the year in Google Sheets using a simple formula that updates every year. This tutorial covers the use of the TODAY, YEAR, and DATE functions to achieve this.

This is going to be automatic. I'm doing this in 2026. It's going to automatically happen in 2027. We are going to get the first day of the year in a cell and it's going to stay that way for the entire year. Okay, we're going to start with equals today. That just gets today's date. We know what today is. Now we are going to wrap that in year so that we get the year and that will stay the same for the entire year in that cell and it'll automatically update on December 31st midnight the night of the 1st. Then we are going to wrap it with date but we're going to add comma one comma one. That's it. There you go.
