Publish the numbers without rebuilding them in a BI tool

Your KPIs already live in Google Sheets. The Dashboard template adds three summary stats at the top and a full data table below. Share a link stakeholders can read without Sheet edit access.

Three summary stats at the top, then your full Sheet as a table. Image URLs show as thumbnails. Built for scorecards, status boards, and tabs you already update weekly.

The weekly reporting treadmill

  • Monday: export CSV, paste into slides.
  • Tuesday: someone updates the Sheet. Slides are wrong.
  • Wednesday: a stakeholder asks for "just a link." You hesitate because of permissions.
  • Thursday: you spin up Looker Studio for a 40-row table.
  • Friday: nobody opens Looker Studio.

That is six or more hours a week making the same numbers presentable, again. Dashboard exists so the Sheet you already maintain becomes the shareable report.

Scorecards, status boards, live leaderboards

Weekly ops scorecard

Leadership wants the numbers, not edit rights to your workbook.

Team, Metric, Target, Actual, Status, Owner

Stat row shows scale at a glance. Table shows row-level detail.

Project status board

Your PM Sheet has 30 columns. Executives need 8.

Use column start to expose only status, owner, due date, and blockers.

Dashboard URL for execs. Full Sheet stays for the team.

Grant or program tracker (public)

A foundation wants transparency data on their website.

Program, Region, Funding, Status, Report link

Hosted table. No "request access" email chain.

Live competition or leaderboard

Scores change during the event. Screens need to catch up.

Rank, Team, Points, Last updated

Update the Sheet. Audience refreshes the page.

Inventory or warehouse snapshot

Counts live in a Sheet. Sales needs a read-only view without warehouse edit access.

SKU, Qty, Location, Thumbnail URL, Reorder flag

Table with optional row images. One link for the sales floor.

For people who report from Sheets, not from a BI login

  • Ops leads publishing weekly or monthly numbers
  • PMs sharing status outside the team workbook
  • Nonprofits posting program or grant transparency data
  • Event organizers running live scoreboards
  • Analysts who need a fast public link, not another dashboard builder

Stats up top. Detail below.

Three summary blocks: total records, total columns, total data points. Below that, a full-width table with your Sheet headers. Image URLs in cells render as small thumbnails. Scrollable on mobile. No clutter.

Three steps to a shareable dashboard

  1. Paste your Sheet URL at bettersheets.co/sites
  2. Choose Dashboard as your template
  3. Preview free then publish to yoursite.bettersheets.co

Structure your Sheet for scanning

Recommended columns

  • Row 1: clear headers (Status, Owner, Target, Actual, etc.)
  • One row per record (project, metric, program, team)
  • Status values in a consistent column so eyes find them fast
  • Thumbnail URLs in a dedicated image column if you use photos

Tips

  • Use column start to hide internal IDs, formulas, or notes columns
  • Keep the columns you want public contiguous (fewer gaps = cleaner table)
  • Dashboard does not include visitor search; if search matters, use Simple instead

Included with Dashboard

Summary stat row
Stakeholders see scale before they read row details
Full data table
Every row and column you expose, in one scrollable view
Image thumbnails
Logo or product images in cells render inline
Live Sheet data
Update the Sheet; the published view stays current
Read-only sharing
Viewers get a website, not edit access to your workbook

Dashboard vs cards and search

  • Directory: profiles with photos and bios, not metric rows
  • Catalog: products and services in a browse grid
  • Simple: same table format but with visitor search enabled
  • Gallery: you are publishing a visual portfolio, not metric rows

FAQ

Is this interactive like Looker Studio or Tableau?
No. Dashboard is a live read of your Sheet with summary counts and a table. You do not drag dimensions or build charts here. You ship in minutes because the Sheet is already built.
Can visitors search or filter rows?
Not on Dashboard. Enable search on Directory, Catalog, or Simple if filtering matters.
What do the three stat blocks mean?
Total records (rows), total columns (headers), and total filled data points across the table. They give context before someone reads row details.
Will it update when I change the Sheet?
Yes, on each page load, as long as the Sheet is publicly viewable.
Is preview free?
Yes. Publishing requires Better Sheets membership.
Can I show only some columns?
Yes. Use column start and choose which columns to expose.

Good fit

  • You already maintain a status or metrics tab in Sheets
  • Stakeholders need read access, not edit access
  • You want to ship this week, not configure a BI tool

Not a fit

  • You need charts, pivots, and drill-downs (Looker Studio or Sheets charts)
  • Visitors need to search rows (use Simple)
  • Rows are people or products better shown as cards (Directory or Catalog)

The dashboard is already in your Sheet

Paste the URL. Pick Dashboard. Share a link instead of another slide deck.
