2027 Calendar: Starts on a Friday, 53 Fridays and Key Dates

What the 2027 calendar looks like: Friday start and end, 365 days, 261 weekdays, quarters, holidays, and a free one-page version in Google Sheets.

You typed "2027 calendar" because you need to know what day something lands on, or you're about to plan next year and want the shape of it first. Most results hand you a grid and leave it there.

This post gives you the facts about the 2027 calendar that actually change plans: how it starts and ends, how many workdays it has, which months are long or short, the dates most people mark first, and how to see all of it on one page.

TL;DR

  • 2027 starts and ends on a Friday, has 365 days, 261 weekdays and 53 Fridays.
  • It isn't a leap year, so February has 28 days and the next February 29 is in 2028.
  • The common mistake is planning month by month and missing the 105 days with no federal holiday between February and May.

Who this is for

  • Office manager: You need the 2027 holidays and workday count before the company calendar goes out.
  • Payroll administrator: A year with 53 Fridays changes the count of weekly paydays.
  • Teacher: You want to see where the long weekends fall before you map units and tests.
  • Event planner: You need to know which Saturdays and long weekends are coming before clients ask.
  • Small business owner: You want quarters, holidays and slow stretches in view before you set launch dates.

How the 2027 calendar is shaped

January 1, 2027 is a Friday. December 31, 2027 is also a Friday. That happens in every non-leap year: a 365-day year is 52 weeks plus one day, so it ends on the same weekday it started.

The counts that follow from that:

  • 365 days, not a leap year. The next leap day is February 29, 2028.
  • 261 weekdays (Monday to Friday) and 104 weekend days.
  • 53 Fridays, because both January 1 and December 31 are Fridays. If you're paid every Friday, that's 53 paydays.
  • 52 ISO weeks. ISO week 1 starts Monday, January 4. January 1 to 3 belong to week 53 of 2026.

The week number detail matters if you use week numbers at work. In Google Sheets, =ISOWEEKNUM(date) gives the ISO week, while =WEEKNUM(date) starts weeks on Sunday and counts the week with January 1 as week 1. The two disagree for the first days of the year.

Months and quarters worth knowing

  • Five Fridays: January, April, July, October and December.
  • Five Thursdays: April, July, September and December.
  • Most weekdays: March and December, with 23 each. February has 20.
  • Friday the 13th: only one, August 13.
  • February fits in four rows: February 1 is a Monday and February 28 is a Sunday, so on a Monday-start grid it's a perfect rectangle.
  • Six-row months: on a Sunday-start grid, January, May and October each need six rows. If you print month pages, those three need the most room.

Quarters, by calendar year: Q1 is January 1 to March 31 (90 days), Q2 is April 1 to June 30 (91 days), Q3 is July 1 to September 30 (92 days), and Q4 is October 1 to December 31 (92 days). Q1 is the shortest, which is worth knowing if you set the same target for every quarter.

The dates most people mark first

US federal holidays in 2027, with the observed day where it moves: New Year's Day Friday January 1, MLK Day Monday January 18, Presidents Day Monday February 15, Memorial Day Monday May 31, Juneteenth Saturday June 19 (observed Friday June 18), Independence Day Sunday July 4 (observed Monday July 5), Labor Day Monday September 6, Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples' Day Monday October 11, Veterans Day Thursday November 11, Thanksgiving Thursday November 25, and Christmas Saturday December 25 (observed Friday December 24).

A few others that move every year: Easter is Sunday March 28, Mother's Day is May 9, Father's Day is June 20. US clocks go forward Sunday March 14 and back Sunday November 7. The full holiday list with notes is on the 2027 holidays page.

One thing you only notice when the year is laid out: from Presidents Day on February 15 to Memorial Day on May 31 there are 105 days with no federal holiday. If you're planning time off, that stretch is where people run dry.

Years that share the 2027 calendar

Any non-leap year that starts on a Friday has the same calendar as 2027. That includes 2021 and 2010, and the next ones are 2038 and 2049. Weekdays line up date for date, but moving holidays like Easter and Thanksgiving don't always, so don't copy holidays over from an old 2021 calendar.

Everything above is easier to use when you can see the whole year at once. That's what Big Year 2027 is: a free Google Sheet where the BIG tab shows all 12 months on one page, with weekends lightly highlighted and every cell editable.

  1. Copy Big Year into your Google Drive.
  2. Open the SETTINGS tab and add the holidays you actually take. It starts blank, so you pick them.
  3. Watch them highlight on the BIG tab.
  4. Type your fixed dates into the day cells: trips, deadlines, birthdays.
  5. When you want paper, the DOWNLOAD tab makes a one-page landscape PDF in Letter, A4, Tabloid or A3.

Start with the 105-day stretch between February 15 and May 31 and decide now whether a long weekend goes in it.

Common pitfalls

  • Assuming 52 Fridays: 2027 has 53, so weekly pay, Friday meetings and Friday posting schedules need one extra slot.
  • Mixing up week numbers: pick ISO or US-style week numbers and use the same formula everywhere.
  • Using the actual holiday date instead of the observed one: Juneteenth, Independence Day and Christmas are all observed on a different day in 2027.
  • Reusing a 2021 calendar as is: the weekdays match, but Easter and other moving dates don't.
