Build a Job Status Checker API in 15 Minutes

In this video, learn how to build a Job Status Checker API using Google Sheets and Apps Script in just 15 minutes. This tutorial demonstrates how to create a web app that allows users to check job statuses securely without exposing the entire spreadsheet.

So this is a really cool use of Apps Script and Google Sheets to essentially create a database and then we're going to create our own API where we're going to check the status of a job.

And we're going to deploy a web app. Um, it's really, really quick. Unbelievably easy. I'm going to show you how to, uh, write this code.

If we are the logged in user, it sort of errors out. This is great for giving access to other people, so we're going to use an incognito mode right now.

Let's check for Delta and see what we get in response. We get in progress. See, it's checking the data live.

We're going to do function do get. This, uh, function is a built in trigger, so we don't have to do anything.

Get sheet by name. We can actually put this on a new line if we want. We're going to do get sheet by name.

We're going to do exactly the same thing we did here with statuses, but we're going to get the jobs.

Now we need all the statuses, so this git actually allows us the statuses, allows us to delete all of this, add statuses.

And now we go down to the bottom and we say return. And normally in a function that we're writing in Apps Script without the do get.

Okay, I'm going to delete all of this and we'll see if we made any errors here because we're going to try this out.

If you haven't noticed yet, and maybe I didn't say it, but job J O B, this is the parameter we want to add to our URL.

We're publishing it to a unique, uh, card subdomain. You are more than welcome to try it out yourself there.

And now we have a checker right here. So we can change this to two. Let's see that'll load.

Or not found. Let's do that. Now if we do four, should show up. There you go, done.
