You Must Double Duplicate (If you're selling a sheet you use)
About this Tutorial
Video Transcript
0:16 This video is very special because it's a really fundamental thing that I think needs to be said even though you might already know it and I want to share with you exactly what's going on with me as well.
0:29 This is literally something I do myself. I have this spreadsheet rubric that I'm using to record all of the segments of my course, selling spreadsheets, and got to a point where I was like, hey, this is actually really useful for others, just like I'm telling you in this course.
0:48 There are some Google Sheets that are inside of your Google Drive that you may want to sell. That's one of the easiest and simplest ways to discover a spreadsheet to sell is to just find one you're using already.
1:01 And I want to carefully walk you through the process. Of literally how I take a spreadsheet that I use and prepare it for sellability or putting it out in the marketplace.
1:12 The thing is, we're using the sheet ourselves, so there's gonna be a lot of data and there's going to be a lot of history.
1:19 There is a version history of a spreadsheet. So what I will do and also I want to continue using this spreadsheet.
1:25 I don't want to delete all the data and then make it available for sale. So what I will do, I will go up and I will go to file, make a copy, I will make a copy of this, I will call it, usually keep it.
1:37 Copy of, but this is actually going to be a umm, something we delete soon. So I might write delete this and make a copy of that.
1:46 And so call that. And this is going to be the double duplicate process because what we're going to do is now.
1:53 Oh. On our delete this copy, we're going to delete all of the data. Now we're going to delete the data that we use, but you might want to keep, umm, data that others may want to see.
2:10 So you can always change that, like, I might go through this and change the rubric a little bit, or something.
2:19 Uhh, I'm going to delete all of these Loom videos, I'm going to go through and probably delete all of these other, tabs, because I might just want to, I'm probably just going to want to sell this particular sheet itself, not the other tabs.
2:33 So I will go through and I will delete these other tabs. And so now I have this sheet, you know, place the, in which I want to delete it.
2:43 But again, we have this version history of all of our deletions. So what I'm going to do again, and do the, this is the second of the duo of duplicates duopoly here.
2:57 I'm going to make a copy. I'm now going to not call this a copy of or delete this. I'm going to call this a course rubric, or actually course outline.
3:15 And this is going to be the copy that I sell. So the delete one is that one in between that had my, had my personal data and will not continue to have my personal data.
3:24 I will now go in and I will delete this. I will move it to the trash. It says take out.
3:30 I'm just going to close this window and now I have a sellable sheet. This is, I know this is really simple, but it's something that you have to do if you are using a spreadsheet that's in your drive and you want to sell that.
3:46 It's a great way to find a sheet that you want to sell. So, umm, go ahead and do that, but make sure you do this double duplicate, or double duplication in order to get a fresh sheet and we can even go up to this version history and see that there is a current version and there is no past information
4:05 here. We can also double check, umm, I want to just double check there's nothing in the app script as well.
4:14 Yep, we have my function here, so that's all clean. We have clean app script, clean sheet, clean history. Now we can sell this very easily.
4:24 We don't even have to share it with the entire world. Uhh, we can use only sheets and set that up.
4:29 Uhh, really awesome stuff. I'm happy you got through this part and uhh, again, this is really simple but I wanted to say it.
4:36 I wanted to go through the process of showing you how quickly it can be done. Take a sheet that you have, copy it, delete all the data in it, uhh, that you need.
4:44 Keep some data that you want to use as an example and then duplicate it again. Alright, thanks.
