Video Transcript

0:01 Hi. So I designed a calendar a calendar that looks like early Craigslist. I call him, I'm calling it Brutal Calendar, Craigslist edition 2023.
0:13 Right now it's the mid-November 2022. I design this calendar for a few reasons I'll get into in a moment. But here's the thing you're watching this video.
0:26 If you are a Better Sheets member and you're watching this video, first, I'll really solve videos to better sheet members first.
0:32 Go in better, better sheets underneath. Get the sheet. You can make a copy of it. If you're watching this video on YouTube there should be a link in the description to copy the sheet directly.
0:45 If not there, there will be a link to the video on Better sheets.co, so you can watch it there as well.
0:51 And and get the sheet. If you sign up, it's this sheet should be free. Just grab it, get it. I wanted to make, so why did I make it?
1:03 Of couple reasons. One, I was experimenting with different views of a calendar. So the normal way that I describe a calendar in Google Sheets.
1:14 So if I ever wanna create a calendar in Google Sheets, I will typically recommend seven columns. Just create seven columns, like four or five, five or six rows, and set up a column set up a calendar that looks like that.
1:29 And, you know, I, not that I got bored of it, but I just thought, well, there are different ways to show a calendar.
1:39 In fact there are some Eastern cultures which show this sort of vertical listing of the dates. And I just thought that was so interesting.
1:52 I was like, Oh, that is different than I expect, Right? I'm American. I have American values, American culture. I've read calendars for, I don't wanna admit how many years, over 20, over 30 years.
2:09 I've known about calendars, well over 30 years. And, and I, I sort of always read them, you know, top to bottom, but also left to right.
2:19 And when I saw a calendar that goes top to bottom first, 0, 1, 0, 1, 2, 3, I was like, Oh, this is, it hurt my brain for a while and this might hurt your brain.
2:32 And then I also thought, well, what else could hurt your brain? If, if the design is very minimalist, it might actually be harder to read or easier to read, depending on what you're doing.
2:45 So I started with like, Okay, I want to create a calendar that is just minimal. And I was like, What?
2:53 On, what on the web is the most minimal design I could possibly see? Like I still wanted some design ish kind of feelings.
3:02 And I was like, Wait, like the one thing that hasn't changed in like 20 years has been Craigslist. Like, it's timeless now.
3:10 And so I looked at early, early Craigslist and recent Craigslist, and I decided, okay, I'll just match this style. Blue text for the numbers of the days.
3:25 I have this line going across. It doesn't go across the entire width. The width of the calendar is lot less than a screen width.
3:33 So this is nice sort of sheet you can line up on your you can line up on your what is this <laugh> desktop or computer in a little different ways.
3:45 If you want, you can also print this. It's printable <laugh>. You can print it as a pdf print command. P it goes through all 12 months.
3:55 I double check the dates. There are a few different ways you can view this. This is sort what I call, I call original Craigslist.
4:06 Then the second tab is current Craigslist. Like this is literally like what the change the entire change in 20 years.
4:13 Craigslist went from this to this <laugh>. Wait, let's look at that again. This to, this was now before, after mvp, 20 years later.
4:29 Okay. I also created a two column version. So it's the six months on the left and the last six months of the year on the right, a four quarters.
4:40 So you see January, April, so it goes January, February, March, and it's three, four by three, four columns, three rows of these.
4:50 I also created one with the weekdays just in case. So this is a little personal embarrassment is I do have calendars in person that look like this, that have this like top to bottom and they're hard to read, right?
5:05 I'm just used to seeing across seven across. So I do have to see these weekdays. So I want to include one for you as well.
5:15 So there are five designs. I gave the numbers a little bit of space. You can see the rows are a little bit higher than normal.
5:24 The columns are a little bit wider than normal. But I think this is fun. I think it's useful if you're looking for a calendar.
5:33 Go ahead, grab this, make a copy for your own use. Let me know how you use it. If you do print one out, let me know how you how it goes.
5:42 If you like the original version or the current version of Craigslist, I call this brutal calendar. You can get it for free.
5:49 Not much to say else unless you have questions about it. Feel free to email me any questions. Better sheet members, email me all the time.
5:56 So if you're watching This on YouTube and not a Better Sheets member, you got this last all Better Sheets members got this first.
6:02 If you're a Better Sheets member and you're watching this right now on Better Sheets dot Go, go below, grab this sheet.
6:10 I'm excited that you can get it now. Mid-November, bite.
